Biography
Ricardo Eversley is a London-based creative practitioner, researcher and Senior Lecturer in Digital Innovation and Course Leader for Graphic Design BA (Hons) within the School of Art, Architecture and Design at London Metropolitan University. His professional and academic practice sits at the intersection of graphic design, visual communication, digital innovation and higher education.
Drawing on a background in professional design practice, his research explores creative agency, design process, personalised learning and the evolving role of artificial intelligence within visual communication education. Through practice-based and action research, he investigates how established design methodologies and emerging technologies can support self-regulated learning, student engagement and inclusive creative practice.
His wider interests encompass AI literacy, assessment design, authorship and the relationship between traditional and computational approaches to making. Across teaching, research and professional practice, Ricardo examines how emerging technologies can extend established principles of visual communication while supporting individualised approaches to contemporary design education.
Teaching and Interests
Ricardo's academic career has developed from Lecturer through to Senior Lecturer in Graphics and Web, Senior Lecturer in Digital Innovation, and Course Leader for BA Graphic Design. Across these roles, he has contributed to curriculum development, course leadership and the integration of emerging digital practices within undergraduate visual communication education.
Research and Interests
Ricardo’s research interests span visual communication, design pedagogy, creative agency, cognition and emerging technologies. His current practice-based research, Making Cognition Visible: Externalising Subjective Experience, explores time-space synesthesia as a means of translating internal perceptions of time into visual, spatial and material forms. This sits alongside Tools for Creative Agency: Personalised Project Management, which investigates adaptable design processes and personalised approaches to self-regulated learning, and AI as Environment: Reframing Practice and Student Agency in Design Education, examining how artificial intelligence is reshaping creative practice, authorship and agency within design education. Collectively, these research strands explore how otherwise invisible processes of thinking, learning and perception can be externalised through visual communication, and how tools, technologies and design methodologies can support more individualised forms of creative practice.
Professional Activities
Ricardo contributes to a range of institutional committees, networks and strategic initiatives focused on equity, inclusion, learning and teaching, staff development, and emerging technologies within higher education. He serves as Co-Chair of the Global Diversity Staff Network (GDSN) and is a member of the School of Art, Architecture and Design Learning and Teaching Quality Committee and the EEDI Committee. He also contributes to the Preventing Harassment and Misconduct (PHM) Advisory Sub-Committee, supporting institutional approaches to creating safe, inclusive and equitable academic environments. Alongside this work, Ricardo is a member of the Generative AI Steering Group, contributing his perspective as a visual communication educator and digital practitioner to discussions around the responsible, critical and pedagogically meaningful integration of generative AI within higher education.
